PPAG & WAHO holds consultation on Reproductive Health Education (RHE) for young people

The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) with support from the West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO) has drawn leaders of youth-led civil
society groups, to a consultation on Reproductive Health Education (RHE) for young people. The youth leaders representing GH Alliance, Youth Action
Movement (YAM), Theatre for Social Change, Youth Harvest Foundation, Youth Advocates Ghana (YAG), Curious Minds, African Youth and Adolescents’ Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN) among others, were engaged on the state of Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) in Ghana and the need for bolder and more strategic advocacy engagements in that regard.

The Youth Programmes and Center of Excellence Manager of PPAG, Ishmael Kwesi Selassie expressed worry that multiple control factors such as conflicting
values, lack of parental care, limited access to reproductive health education are resulting in increasing teen pregnancy and teen parenting, sexual exploitation
and transactional sexual engagement and they remain the leading challenges bedevilling adolescents. Mr. Selassie further noted that, this is the prevailing
state of many Ghanaian young people, despite the strides made to address SRHR challenges.
